Currently one of my photos of Kaki King from the Glee Club in Birmingham is the top user rated image on her Last.fm profile - while this is all very nice, my treatment of those images was pretty severe and makes me cringe slightly.
I had just come into ownership of my Canon 30D and I had been using Adobe Lightroom all of a month - I don’t want to put the image itself down, but I had not the experience to attempt a decent monochrome conversion, and created something that lost an awful lot of the finer nuances of the image.
For those who like the original I’m happy that you appreciated it. The harsher look does add a rough charm that is reminiscent of her delivery, but I think that this smoother take now makes more sense to me and shows something more delicate in Kaki’s style.
I can’t change the image in Last.fm for obvious reasons, but I thought I’d make this a relevant link for those who’d be interested. Thanks for reading.
